Edwards Silencer for XDS35i Overview:
The XDS silencer has two main functions.
- To reduce exhaust noise during pump down and gas ballast operation.
- To collect and retain tip seal dust as the pump is operated.
Exhaust gases exit the exhaust port when the pump is being used to evacuate a process chamber, or when the gas ballast control is being used, or both. The noise level when pumping down rises as the throughput increases and the silencer is used to reduce this noise level.
The outer can is made of pressed steel and is split to allow access to the filter elements. The filter element housing is made from Santoprene® thermoplastic elastomer. The element itself is polyester. The foam block is manufactured from filter foam.

- Tubular silencing design - tube is positions to maximize attenuation and air flow while minimizing pressure drop
- Patented high grade element with built-in butterfly gasket seal which creates positive seal between housing hemispheres and a new seal with each element
- Seamless drawn housings - no welds to rust or vibrate apart
- Durable carbon steel construction with black powder coated finish
- Ability to mount vertically or horizontally

Our in-house machine shop is capable of machining various components, prototypes and housing conversions as needed.
AJVS repair process:
Repair Steps
- Full incoming inspection and run up time check, vibration check, drive inspection.
- Full disassembly of the pump, decontamination and cleaning.
- Pump is balanced utilizing state-of-the-art equipment from the world leader in equipment balancing and analysis to reduce noise and vibrations and extend bearings life.
- Assembly and replacement of all necessary parts such as shafts, bushings, bearings, sleeves, O-rings, gaskets, seals, wicks, etc. Only parts that meet or surpass OEM specifications are used to ensure dependable highest quality service and log pump life.
- Final test and leak check. The pump in fully assembled condition is checked for vacuum seal. Leak test to 1 x 10 -Mbar l/s. Vibrations are analyzed and test data is digitally recorded.
